This started with a phone call

The founder’s story, in her own words.

Her chair, his set — one of fourteen and a half years’ worth of days.

For fourteen and a half years, I sat beside John Singleton as his producing partner. I was there from the first spark of an idea through casting, production, and the edit — on projects like Snowfall and Rebel.

What I watched John do better than almost anyone was find actors. Actors nobody else had noticed yet — actors who didn’t know what they were capable of. He’d put them in front of a camera, inside a real world he’d built for them, and they’d become someone even they didn’t recognize.

After we lost John, a young man named DeMarco called and asked me to help him become an actor. I picked up the phone to find him a class — and found out that almost everything had gone virtual. Acting, taught through a screen.

Authentic human emotion cannot be taught that way. I know, because I spent my career watching it happen in person, on real sets, under real lights.

So I built the room John would have built: real standing sets, real props, wardrobe, and wigs — a place where actors don’t just study craft, they learn how a working set actually moves. The etiquette. The vocabulary. The unspoken language of professional film and television.

ACT Immersively exists to carry John’s legacy forward — to find the next hidden talent, maybe you, and give them the tools, the room, and the community to be discovered.
